Obituary

Alan Mellady, 76, of Crawfordsville, died at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 30th. He had been battling heart disease for several years. He died peacefully at home.
He was born on December 20, 1936, in Otterbein, Indiana, to Francis ("Frank") and Helen (Mills) Mellady. He grew up on a dairy farm outside of Romney where he met Rosalee Stoops, his future wife. He graduated from Romney High School in 1956. After serving 2 years in the United States Marine Corps, he returned to Romney and he and Rosalee were married in 1958. They moved to Crawfordsville later that year. They were married for 54 years at the time of Rosalee's death in December 2012.
Alan retired from R.R. Donnelly and Sons in 2001 after working there for 43 years. He was a parishioner at St. Bernard's Catholic Church for over 50 years, where he was involved in Bernie's Buffet (weekly soup kitchen) and helping rebuild homes in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. He was an avid Boilermaker fan, he liked playing euchre, operating his small working farm, coaching his kids in various sports and wood-working. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by daughters Michelle, Susan and Maria, sons Michael and Matthew, son in law Greg, daughter in law Jolinda, 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and his sister Lisa Drewry of Carmel.
He was preceded in death by Rosalee, his wife of 54 years, their first-born infant son Terry, his parents, his sister Elizabeth "Betty" Holdcraft, and his brother Don of Lafayette.

Friends may call at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 1306 East Main Street, Crawfordsville, Indiana. The Rosary will be said from 8:45 a.m. to 9 a.m., followed by visitation from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 7. Funeral services with mass will begin at 12:00 p.m. and will be conducted by Father Dennis Faker, followed immediately by burial at Calvary Cemetery. A reception at St. Bernard's will follow.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Bernie's Buffet (c/o St. Bernard's Catholic Church).
