Alex Lebedeff, 89, lived a full life
before passing away on Thursday, Aug.
25, 2016.
He was born on Feb. 21, 1927 in an
apartment over his grandfather's grocery
store in New Britain Conn. and spent his
early years growing up in Connecticut,
Puerto Rico and Georgia.
It was in his early teen years that he met
his future wife, Ann, in Puerto Rico. In the
meantime, war broke out, and he enlisted
in the U. S. Army and served in the
Pacific. Upon discharge, he attended and
graduated from the University of Georgia.
Uncle Sam called again, and Mr. Lt. Lebedeff
was recalled and spent a year in Korea
where he was a 2nd Lieutenant.
Shortly after that he tracked down Ann
and managed to convince her that she
should marry him—and she accepted. The
couple moved to the Midwest so he could
study at the University of Illinois, where he
obtained his master's degree. He worked in
business for a while, but always felt a pull
toward education. Mr. Lebedeff left the
business world and enrolled
at Purdue University
to obtain his teaching
certification.
In 1965, the family
moved to Crawfordville
and he taught economics
at Crawfordsville High
School from 1965 to 1991. He loved
teaching and counseling students, loved
his community and loved his church. He
is also locally renowned for the number of
cars he bought and sold during his life, as
well as his deep affection for the Covington
Beef House.
Survivors include his wife Ann (Osuna)
Lebedeff; a son, David Lebedeff; daughter-in-law
Linda (Gwin) Lebedeff; a brother-in-law,
James D. Osuna; a sister-in-law,
Ana Osuna; a nephew, John Osuna; and a
niece, Catherine (Osuna) Neis.
A memorial service is scheduled for
Sunday, Sept. 4 at 2 p.m. at St. John's
Episcopal Church in Crawfordsville.
Memorial contributions may be made to
St. John's Episcopal Church or to the Fish
