Amanda Kay (Barclay-Turpin) Smiddy, 45, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Monday, July 20, 2020.

She was born March 15, 1975, at Crawfordsville, to Paula Hudson (Gene Crouch) and Neil (Becky) Barclay.

Amanda was well-known for her involvement within the community. She was an avid sports fan and loved being in the stands watching her Athenians. She touched many lives with her participation in pageants by both directing them and mentoring numerous young women. Next to her children and grandson, her greatest achievements were the creation of the Strawberry Festival Pageant and Miss Indianapolis Pageant. Her positive attitude was an inspiration to everyone she had met. Amanda always found the light in the dark and made everyone know they could count on her to be their "second momma." Before relocating to Texas, Amanda loved spending time with her grandson and children.

Amanda married Christine Smiddy on April 5, 2019. She survives. Also surviving are her children, Alex Turpin, Austin (Kaiti) Turpin and Skye (Cody) Smith; brother J.D. Barclay; grandparents Harold and Betty Barclay; parents Neil (Becky) Barclay and Paula (Gene Crouch) Hudson; the light of her life, her grandson, Ryder, and previous long-time partner, Robert Turpin. She is also survived by her multiple surrogate/adoptive children.

Amanda is preceded in death by her grandparents, Kenneth and Alberta Hudson; and cousin Harold Barclay.

Amanda will forever be sorely missed by our community and her loving family. A celebration of life will be held for Amanda from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, July 27 at Hunt and Son Funeral Home, 107 N. Grant Ave.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the American Foundation for Prevention Suicide or the Boys & Girls Club of Montgomery County.
