Arista Lowell Alward passed away Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016 at Franciscan Heart Center in Indianapolis. He was born Feb. 4, 1933 to Arista and Sadie (Duchene) Alward at Wallace. He was a graduate of Wallace High School and served in the Air Force. He married Barbara Eitnier Alward on May 28,1960 She survives. He was a 30 year retiree of Indiana Bell Telephone Company. He later went on to work at Hillsboro M & F telephone Company for 5 years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Crawfordsville; 50- year member of Masons No. 495 In Wallace; Montgomery County Pioneer Tractor club; and enjoyed camping, spending time with family, and spent several years at Edinburg, Texas for the winter. Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Ellen (Tyler) Alward Baumgardner of New Ross; a brother, Connie Lee (Dee) of Monrovia; three grandsons, Joshua (Maria) Hesler of Crawfordsville, Dregan (Kiyana) Baumgardner of Portland, Ore., and Steele Baumgardner of New Ross; great-grandchildren, Chris, Kyler, Damien, Brooklyn, Jayda and Lacey; and his Chihuahua, Dawg, who he adopted from the AWL.
A celebration of life is planned for Thursday, Dec. 29 from noon to 2 p.m. at Hunt & Son Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County, 1104 Big Four Arch Rd., Crawfordsville, IN 47933. He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Lowell Alward in 1987; a sister, Marie Alward Nickell of Fort Wayne; and a brother, Gordon Leon Alward of Kingman.
