Barbara H. Karle
Barbara H. Karle, 77, of Waycross died Thursday night at
Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida. She was
born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Ralph H. Hipp and
Lydia Thomas Hipp. Mrs. Karle was valedictorian of St.
Joseph Academy in Tipton, Indiana and a magna cum laude
graduate of Marion College in Indianapolis, Indiana. While
in Indianapolis she was a member of the St. Celila Choir
and City Concert Choir.
Mrs. Karle worked as office manager and secretary for Dr.
W.L. Pomeroy, Jr., before her retirement. Mrs. Karle was
active in her community where she was an honorary lifetime
and key member of the Waycross Junior Womens Club, where
she chaired the Education Department. She also chaired the
Waycross Crippled Children's Clinic for 10 years, member
of the Waycross City School Board for 8 years, and chaired
the March of Dimes for numerous years. Mrs. Karle was
named a Georgia Outstanding Citizen by the State
Federation of Womens Clubs.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she
sang in the church choir for 30 years, and received the
Bishop Gartland Award of the Diocese of Savannah for
service in the church and community.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by a
daughter, Betsy Karle and two sons, Stephen Karle and
Marty Karle.
She is survived by her husband A.A. "Gus" Karle of
Waycross, her children, Mary Woodruff and her husband Joe
of Waycross, Daniel Karle and his wife Norma of Greenwood,
South Carolina, David Karle and his wife Linda of
Jacksonville, Florida, Dr. Ginny Karle Bridges and her
husband Lou of Birmingham, Alabama, Chris Karle and his
wife Darlene of Blackshear, Matthew Karle and his wife
Rita of Jacksonville, Florida, Kathy Aldridge and her
husband Bo of Blackshear, seventeen grandchildren, seven
great-grandchildren, two brothers, John Hipp of St. White,
Florida, David Hipp of Townsend, Tennessee and numerous
other relatives.
A Mass of the Resurrection to celebrate the life of
Barbara Karle will be held Monday, May 22, 2006 at 10 am
at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A Rosary service will be
held at 5 pm with visitation following until 7 pm, Sunday
at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calvary
Cemetery in Crawfordsville, Indiana. In lieu of flowers
the family requests memorial contributions to the Marty

A funeral Mass will be held 10:30am Wednesday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church with the Father David Hellman officiating. Friends may call 9:30am-10:30am at the church.
