Betty Groves passed away on Friday, Nov. 30, with her daughter Sandy, son Sam and daughter-in-law Bobbie at her side.
Betty loved her home and family. She celebrated and hosted birthday gatherings every year for parents, aunts and uncles, children, and grandchildren. Whenever folks were together, Betty played the piano and everyone sang hymns, Broadway tunes, Stephen Foster songs, and other old standards. She extended her care to the community, always sending cards and food whenever there was illness or loss. She enjoyed time with friends at parties, picnics, hay rides, golf and women's groups.
Born a Methodist, Betty dedicated her married life to the First Christian Church. She was treasurer, Sunday school superintendent, circle member, and a support to all the congregation. Betty grew up on the McClamroch family farm and kept a connection with her roots through McClamroch and Patton and Breaks school reunions. She was married on Aug. 28, 1938, to Charles Groves.
She was predeceased by her parents, Lester and Nan McClamroch, her husband Charles, her sister Ruth and her brother Richard.
She leaves her children, Sandy and Sam, grandchildren Rachael and Al, and great-grandchildren Tyler, Gavin, Jasper, Morgan and Zachary.
Calling hours for Betty will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Hunt and Son Funeral Home. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10 at the funeral home, and burial at Oak Hill Cemetery.
