Bobby Joe Grimes passed away in the company of family on Monday November 25 at age 66, after succumbing to a very short illness with pancreatic cancer. He was born on December 20, 1946 to Willis and Mary Grimes. After his father's death his family moved to Crawfordsville and he graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1965. Bob proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in June 1965. He served our country from 1965-68, volunteering to serve in Vietnam as an Ammunition Technician in Danang. When given the opportunity to come home, Bob volunteered to serve another tour. Many people chose to leave Crawfordsville after graduation, but after Bob's tours in the military, he returned to the town he loved. Upon his return to Crawfordsville, Bob met his wife to be, Mary Randel in 1969 and married her in 1970. He continued to serve the community as a successful insurance agent from 1972 until present day.
Bob is survived by his wife Mary Randel Grimes; Son Nick Grimes and his wife Amber of Ladoga; Daughter Natalie Volz and her husband Mike of Carmel, and daughter Erica Grimes presently of Taiwan; Brother Alan Grimes and his wife Carol of Crawfordsville; Grandchildren Landon, Owen, and Molly. In addition, he leaves behind a host of family and friends that admire the man he was.
Bob was a lover of life and people. He was a man of many hobbies including bird hunting, deer and elk hunting, fishing, boating, motorcycle road trips, traveling and enjoying time with family and friends. Anyone who knew Bobby knew that he loved to joke with people. His infectious laugh was well known amongst his friends. Although he is gone, his friends will always remember his enthusiasm for life and the ability to affect everyone he met in a positive way.
There will be a calling at First United Methodist Church in Crawfordsville on Friday November 29 from 4-8 pm. Funeral services will be held 11:00am Saturday. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery South with Military rites at graveside.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Bobs name to the FISH program in Crawfordsville or The Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675, or charity of Donor's choice.
