Carl E. Gwin was born in Lawrence County, Indiana on February 25, 1924 to Earl & Nellie Deckard Gwin. Carl graduated from Pine Village, Indiana. He was active in band, 4-H and FFA. He attended Purdue from 1942-1943 in agriculture and ROTC. He enlisted in May 1943 to the US Army. He served as a medic in the 250 th Field Artillery Battalion under the command of General Patton and General Patch. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to Purdue for 2 more years. He was a lifetime farmer after the service and also worked as a contractor. When I-65 was built he worked ahead of Morris Holly.
Awards Carl has received were Cox/Kelly Farm, Montgomery County SWCD 1999 for Outstanding accomplishments in Resource Conservations, 1999 Master Farm Conservationist Award from Montgomery County Soil & Water Conservation District.
He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the VFW.
Surviving are his wife (as he called her "my woman, my sweetheart") Ruby; daughter, Dr. Deborah Gwin-Hunt (Thomas); sons, Wilson E "Wil" Gwin (Melissa), and Daniel C. Gwin (Donya Lester); grandchildren Tom Gwin, Dr. Jessica Gwin, Rebecca Gwin, and Stephen Lutterloh, David Hunt and Robert Hunt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Nellie Gwin, his brother William "Bill" Gwin, and 2 sisters, Lucille and Lois.
Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Thursday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Whitacre officiating.
Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica.
Visitation will be from 11am-2pm at the funeral home.
Military rites will be conducted at the service.
