IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carolyn Sue
Lichtenwalter
March 10, 1940 – May 13, 2025
Carolyn Sue Lichtenwalter, 85, died peacefully at home, Tuesday May 13th, surrounded by her family.
She was born March 10, 1940 at Crawfordsville, Indiana to William J. and Stella (Howe) Peterman. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, and seven sisters.
She graduated from Hammond Technical High School in 1958, working as a soda jerk to afford her school books. On August 29, 1959, she married Stephen Kay Lichtenwalter at Hammond, Indiana.
Together, they had four children, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and countless four-legged friends during their 62 years of marriage. Steve preceded her in death in 2021.
Throughout her life, Carolyn had many jobs, but most enjoyed being a homemaker and gardener.
Her favorite role of all was being Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma (Grandma Shell, Gigi, G-ma, Granny, and even Old Horse) She loved her family fiercely and unconditionally. She never missed a game, recital, band concert, swim meet, or Grandparent's Day.
She enjoyed spending her time with her loved ones, reading, tending to her garden, crocheting, and watching every single episode of Judge Judy and Law and Order. (And yes, she always knew who did it.)
She is survived by her children: Mike (Molly), Mark (Alfonso), Matt (Sarah), Michelle (Craig), six grandchildren (Michael, Elizabeth, Evelyn, Ally, Gabrielle, and Ryan), six great grandchildren, her canine companion, Thor, and her bonus granddaughter, Lydia.
Carolyn chose to be cremated, and a private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Final services have been entrusted to Hunt & Son Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Caroyln's memory.
