Carolyn Mae Simpson passed away August 1, 2026, at the age of 101. She was born November 22, 1924, to Russell and Dorothy Venis. She graduated from Waynetown High School in 1942.

She was married to Robert D. Thompson on April 7, 1946, after he returned home from serving in World War II. They lived in Smartsburg raising their four children, Donald M. Thompson, Larry R. Thompson, Richard L. Thompson and Linda J. Thompson. They were married for 25 years when Bob died on June 1, 1971.

Carolyn was married to William Leach on December 30, 1972, until his death on December 8, 1980. She later married Gerald Lee Simpson on September 11, 2004, until his death on February 23, 2016.

Carolyn was an active member of Smartsburg Christian Church for many years and also First Christian Church of Crawfordsville. Carolyn got her real estate license, volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Red Cross, worked for Habitat for Humanity scheduling meals for the volunteer work days, and volunteered figuring taxes for retired folks while in Florida in the winter for a number of years.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Mary Helen Pawlak, her brother, James Lee Venis, her husband, Robert D. Thompson, and her son, Richard Lee (Geri) Thompson.

She is survived by her sons, Donald M. Thompson and Larry R. (Deborah) Thompson, her daughter, Linda J. (Brian) Cord; Her grandchildren, Amy (Justin) Tischer, Daniel (Marce) Thompson, Allison (Jon) Philips, Adam (Michelle) Thompson, Aiden (Abby) Thompson, Lucas Thompson, Seth (Krystal) Thompson, Erin True, and Alex (Lindsey) Cord, 18 great-grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, and many step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

Services will be held at the Hunt & Son Funeral home on Thursday, August 6, 2026, with visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., and the service at 3:00 p.m.. Burial will be in the Waynetown Cemetery following.

Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to: Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, Indiana.
