Obituary

Charles O'dell of Crawfordsville passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, Sept. 23, 2016. He was 87-years-old.

"Charlie" was born Nov. 11, 1928, at Crawfordsville, to William Samuel and Letha Ann (Miller) O'dell. He graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1946. He married Hulah Clark on Nov. 11, 1951, at Robinson, Illinois. They were happily married for nearly 65 years. She survives.

Also surviving are their two children, Phillip O'dell and Sharon O'dell (Tom) Keedy; three granddaughters, Meredith (Erin) Keedy-Merk, Kaylynn (Charles) Ranspach and Hannah Keedy; two grandsons, William O'dell and Nicholas O'dell; and two great-granddaughters, Destiny O'dell and Sawyer Ranspach.

He was greeted in Heaven by his parents; sister Dorothy Sanders; daughter-in-law Phyllis O'dell; and many other family members and friends.

Charlie was a stranger to no one and an active member of the community. He was a member of First Christian Church for 65 years and an energetic leader in many church activities. Church members will remember him for his bold neckties and ability to make others feel loved.

Charlie enjoyed square dancing as a member of the "Sugar Creek Squares" for many years. He was also a servant to many through Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, 4-H, Boy Scouts, among other organizations.

Charlie retired from RR Donnelley's in 1989 after 42 years there. He was a small business owner of C&J Service Plumbing, Heating and Air. Charlie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved to make people smile and had a kind and generous heart.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, 2016, at Hunt and Son Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, at First Christian Church, Crawfordsville.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the First Christian Church Logos program and Hand-in-Hand Preschool, Habitat for Humanity or the Montgomery County Community Foundation in memory of Charlie's charitable nature.

The O'dell family would like to thank the kind staff of Whitlock Home and Home by Choice and Sherry for their loving care in Charlie's final months.
