Chester "Chet" Hughes, 70 of Crawfordsville passed away Sunday evening at home.

He was born "Down home", Crothersville, IN on May 5, 1947. His parents were Binford & Monice Thurman Bonwell.  He was married to Ginger M. Thompson Hughes, she preceded him in death March 11, 2016.  Chet was a union steelworker and had worked at California Pellet Mill, and was retired from the US Army as well as previous service in the US Navy.  He was recently working at CVS in Crawfordsville.

He was a member of the New Ross Methodist Church, American Legion, VFW and Steelworkers Union.

He is survived by his son Howard of Crawfordsville, as well as sister Diana O'Conner and Gail Henderson. Chet also has two grandchildren Lacey Hughes and Chelsea Callis.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Kimberly Callis.

A graveside service with military rites will be held 1:00 pm Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery Grant Ave. with Pastor Tami Mussche officiating.
