Obituary

Christine (Hall) Melvin, Crawfordsville, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2017. She had been a resident at the Lane House Nursing Home for seven years.

She was born Dec. 30, 1924, at Waynesburg, Kentucky, to Thomas Grant and Goldie (Cornett) Hall. She moved to Indiana in 1936. She attended school at Breaks, New Market, Mount Tabor and Crawfordsville. She was a member of Calvary Tabernacle Church with the Rev. Lester Wright. She taught Sunday school for many years. She worked at Porkland Packing, Westside Packing and the Grab-It-Here grocery store.

She married Kenneth R. Melvin on Feb. 14, 1942, at Crawfordsville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant son; son Carl Melvin; daughters, Emma Louise Smith and Martha Riddle; two granddaughters; two grandsons; one great-grandson; one brother; and two sisters.

She is survived by five children, Robert (Beth) Melvin of Marshall, Kenneth (Barbara) Melvin of O'Fallon, Illinois, and Thomas Melvin, Elizabeth (Bobby) Compton and Pathena Mason, all of Crawfordsville; sons-in-law, Jesse Smith of Lebanon and Jeff Riddle of Russellville; daughter-in-law Freda Melvin, Crawfordsville; sister Selena Hanlon of Bainbridge; 41 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; 36 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at Hunt & Son Funeral Home, with a funeral service at 2 p.m. The Rev. Jeff Long will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery North.
