IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David Lee
Mccafferty
March 4, 1927 – October 17, 2024
David Lee McCafferty of Crawfordsville, Indiana passed away on October 17, 2024. Dave was born March 4, 1927 in Shannondale, IN to Rupert and Edith (Endicott) McCafferty. He was raised in Darlington and graduated from Darlington High School in 1945. He enlisted in the Navy upon graduation and was a medical corpsman, stationed at the Naval Hospital in Sampson NY. Upon his discharge on 1946, he came back to Crawfordsville where he met Margaret Jane Eyler. They were married September 6, 1947 and recently celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary.
He worked for RR Donnelley as a production supervisor for 45 years until his retirement in 1992.
After retirement, he enjoyed golfing and was an avid bicycle rider. At the age of 69, he and a friend biked from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. He also completed the RAGBRAI in Iowa as well as a couple of Hilly Hundreds in Bloomington. He rode until the age of 95 and you could often see him riding around the roads of Montgomery and neighboring counties.
He was an avid photographer and amassed thousands of photos and slides over the years. He truly recorded the history of his family and travels in photos.
He was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and also a member of the Family Campers, who helped found the Center for Peace and Life Studies near Muncie.
He had a passion for the St. Louis Cardinals, and while he never met any players personally, Margy and his sons met Stan Musial once. He loved to tell the story of shaking his son's hand afterward just to be able to say "I shook the hand of the man that shook Stan the Man's hand."
He and Margy loved being with and bragging about their grandchildren, grandson Riley and granddaughter Delaney. "Those two kept us young"
Family members who have already passed include his parents, Rupert and Edith, sister Betty Jo, and brother Charles. He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughter Patt (David Nickens), and sons Michael (Jiyoung Lee), Brian, and Dan (Lisa), as well as numerous nephews, nieces and their children.
Dave was a generous person, giving his time and resources to family and friends alike. He will be missed.
A funeral mass will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 23, at St. Bernard Catholic Church with a visitation beginning at 9:00 AM. Father Michael Bower will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
