Donald L. Dake, 78, of Crawfordsville
and Punta Gorda,
Fla., died Friday at St. Clare
Medical Center.
He was born on Jan. 19, 1932
in South Hampton, N.Y. to
Beatrice M. and Merrills L.
Dake. Raised in Ithaca, N.Y.,
he graduated from Cornell
University in 1954, where he
was a member of Theta Chi
Fraternity, University Glee
Club and marching band. He

1954. She
survives.
From 1954-
1957, he
served in
the U.S.
Army as a 1st
Lt. during the
Korean Conflict.
Mr. Dake came to Wabash
College in 1959 as Assistant
Business Manager. In 1964,
he was named Director of
Physical Facilities and Purchasing
and, in 1974, Director
of Services. He retired in 1990.
Dake served as President of
Indiana Region, National
Association of Educational
Buyers. He served on the
Board of Directors of Educational
and Institutional Services
Inc. from 1976-90; elected
Chairman in 1984.
Locally, he was a member of
Kiwanis, Ouiatinon Club, Community
Chorus, Meals on
Wheels and First United
Methodist Church. He served
on the Board of Directors of
Eagle Point Home owners
Association in Punta Gorda,
Fla.
Surviving are a daughter. Julia
Ann Dake of Crawfordsville;
granddaughter, Lauren Dake
O'Neal of Chiba, Japan; brother,
Robert (Andrea) Dake of
Ithaca, N.Y.; brother in law,
Robert E. (Barbara) Sellers of
Stone Harbor, N.J. and several
nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by a
son, David Lawrence Dake,
Sister Patti Dake and his parents.
A memorial gathering will be
held from 4-6 p.m.Thursday at
Hunt & Son Funeral Home,
107 N. Grant Ave, Crawfordsville,
IN.
