Donald Lee McDevitt, 68, of Crawfordsville,
passed away Wednesday morning
at St. Clare Medical Center.
He was born on Aug. 9, 1940 in Danville,
Ill., to Victor and Mildred Norbut. He married
MaryAnn Katter in Holland on Dec. 23, 1965.
Don was a 1958 graduate of Crawfordsville
High School. He attended Wabash
College, New Mexico Western University
and he was a graduate of Oakland City University.
He served in the U.S. Army for three years
where he received the honored distinction of
being selected to play on a German National
Basketball Team stationed in Mannheim, Germany.
He had been the accountant and interim manager of the
Crawfordsville Electric Light and Power Company before
devoting most of his career to the banking industry. He retired
from National City Bank in 1993.
He had served as a youth basketball coach and on the
board of directors of the Montgomery County Boys & Girls
Club, and was the current treasurer of the newly-organized
Basketball Heritage Project, Inc.
He is survived by his wife, son, Mitchell Don (Ginger) McDevitt
of Crawfordsville, daughter Michelle Ann (Dirk) Fischer of
Perth, Australia, and three granddaughters, Taylor McDevitt,
and Alexandria and Emma Fischer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, adoptive father
Robert E. McDevitt, and brother, Robert C. McDevitt.
Cremation was handled by Hunt & Sons Funeral Home. At
his request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. The
family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be
made to either the Basketball Heritage Project, Inc., P.O. Box
349, Crawfordsville, IN, 47933; or to the Home for Friendless
Animals, 7649 West 200 South, Waynetown, IN, 47990.
