Donald Ralph Mikels, 91, formerly of Darlington passed away at 2am Wednesday at Williamsburg Healthcare.
Mr. Mikels had been a farmer most of his life, retiring from the Crawfordsville Street Department in 1983.
He attended Crawfordsville High School and Vocational Ag School in Indianapolis.
He served in WWII from 1942-45. He was assigned to the 94th US Bomber group where he was a mechanic. He was later assigned to the 447th Bomber group where he helped crew a B-17 back to the US.
He was a member of the Crawfordsville VFW.
He was born March, 22, 1918 in Montgomery County to Clifford and Odessa Mabel Tinder Mikels. He married Mable Elizabeth Lyon on October 4, 1941. She preceded him in death March 29, 2005.
Surviving are a daughter Charlotte (Jeff) Davenport of Crawfordsville; Two sons Gen and Greg (Linda) Mikels of Casper, WY; Two brothers George of Jacksonville, FL, and Raymond of Crawfordsville; three sisters Frances of Huntington, Mary Catherine Truax, and Jane Gleason of Crawfordsville. 8 Grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a great grandson, and a daughter in law.
Funeral services will be held 10am Saturday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home, with the Pastor Dorman Winger officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, with Military Rites by the American Legion/VFW.
