Dorothy May Riley, 97, died on September 6, 2013, at the Visiting Nurses Hospice Home in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Born Christmas Day 1915 to the late Henry and Lucy Kammann, as the youngest of four daughters. Married to Lester W. Riley in 1940, and moved to Crawfordsville from Chicago, with R.R. Donnelly Publishing in 1942. They celebrated over 50 years of marriage until his death in 1993.
Dorothy was a community servant for over 65 years volunteering as a blood donor, Girl Scout Leader, Pink Lady, treasurer for the Christian Nursing Service & Meals on Wheels; active with the League of Women Voters, PEO and the Art League. She was awarded the "Golden Apple" three times for her community service.
Her membership at Wabash Presbyterian Church was more than attending church on Sunday. Dorothy held various leadership positions during the years and was a generous contributor. She was presented with a special citation of praise and named Anna Harter Walter Association Board Member Emeritus.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Henrietta Bachus, Lillian Wash, and Lois Curtis. Surviving family members include nieces and nephews: Dorothy A. Fritz, Donald J. Curtis, Gary (Jill) Curtis and Lucy (Paul) Cumston; as well as many extended family members, including three additional generations of nieces and nephews.
A Service in Loving Memory and Celebration for the Life and Witness of Dorothy K. Riley will take place at Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church on September 12 at noon with calling one hour prior.
Memorials may be given to the Christian Nursing Service or Hospice.
