Eston L. Selby, 90, of Crawfordsville passed away Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at Bickford Assisted Living.
Eston was born March 2, 1926, at Alamo, to Scott and Ida Selby.
After graduating from Alamo High School in 1944, Eston enlisted in the Army Air Corps, serving as a B-17 ball turret gunner with the 457th Bombardment Group stationed in England. He completed 13 combat missions over Nazi-occupied Europe earning the Air Medal, American Theater Ribbon, EAME Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, Bronze Star Medal with one Bronze Cluster and the World War II Victory Medal. He then proudly continued his service as an Air Force reservist, with active duty assignments during the Korean War.
Eston married Helen McGinnis in December 1946. He worked at RR Donnelley's for more than 39 years, retiring in 1986. Eston and Helen enjoyed playing golf and wintering in Florida. Eston was a life-long Cubs fan. He also enjoyed watching IU basketball and Chicago Bears football.
Survivors include: brother Kenneth; sister Ethel; son Edward; and grandson Michael.
Eston was preceded in death by his wife.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016, at Hunt & Son Funeral Home, with visitation from 9-11 a.m. Interment will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery South.
