Eugene "Gene" Dale Krout, 89, of Green Valley, Ill., formerly of Crawfordsville, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014, at his residence.
Gene was born March 3, 1925, at Alamo, to Ora and Mae (Titus) Krout. He married Betty Stevens on Sept. 15, 1944, at Smartsburg. She preceded him in death in December 1993. He later married Betty Jo Lowe in November 1994. She preceded him in death in September 2011. Gene also was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Marjorie and Ruth; son David; and daughter JoEllen.
Gene is survived by daughters, Cheryl Goble of Crawfordsville and Jane (Jim) DeClerck of Green Valley, Ill.; son Jim (Denise) Krout of Clearwater, Fla.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Gene served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After serving in the military, Gene then worked as a sales representative for Hoosier Crown, Crawford Industries and later for Form Flex. He was an avid golfer and was a member of a poker club.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial service will held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, at Hunt & Son Funeral Home, Crawfordsville.
Memorials may be made in honor of Gene to the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements were handled through Davison-Fulton-Woolsey Funeral Home in Pekin, Ill.
