Obituary

Evelyn Baker Logsdon, 92, of Crawfordsville, went home to be with her Lord peacefully on Feb. 7, 2015, at the home of her daughter in McCordsville, Ind., surrounded by her family.

She was born on June 30, 1922, at Crawfordsville and was the daughter of the late Floyd Earl Hughes and Sarah Rebecca (Jones) Hughes, and was raised by her paternal grandparents, the late Charles and Etta Hughes. She attended Crawfordsville schools and was a member of the high school class of 1940. Evelyn was married to Charles Louis Baker on March 12, 1939, and he died on March 9, 1983. She married Charles Logsdon on April 2, 2002, and he survives her. In the 1940s she was involved with children's ministry and Girl Scouts. In the '50s she and her husband owned Bake's Speed Grill at the corner of Market and Washington Streets. Years later she retired from Impex. Evelyn lived most of her life in Crawfordsville except for several years in Florida where she earned her certificate as a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked in various hospitals and did home health care. She was an ordained minister and was a blessing to many by her visits to nursing homes, hospitals, senior citizen centers and shut-ins. She not only ministered to them through her words, but also through her gifts of music (piano and guitar) and her ever-present smile. Evelyn's faith in Jesus Christ was the most important thing in her life and she shared that testimony of God's love with the second most important thing in her life —her family. She lived her life as a testimony of God's faithfulness and boldly witnessed to them all. She was, no doubt, her family's biggest Prayer Warrior. They can all find comfort in the fact that their Prayer Warrior is now seated at the feet of Jesus.
She was also preceded in death by her son, David Baker; a son-in-law, Richard Spear; her sister, Betty Hughes Meese; and brothers, Robert, Charles, and Dan Hughes. She is survived by three daughters, Marlis Spear of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Marcia Marshall (Ronald) of McCordsville, and Rebecca Clinkscales (William) of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; a son, Donald Baker (Lesley) of Waynetown; a stepdaughter, Joyce Baker of Crawfordsville; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews; and life-long friends, Avanell Peterman and Ruth Coleman. Final arrangements have been made through Hunt & Son Funeral Home in Crawfordsville.

The funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Greg McDonald and will be held at Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene on Fe. 11, 2015, at 2 p.m. Visitation at the church will precede the service from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Oak Hill North Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Southern Care Indy Hospice, 6620 Parkdale Place, Suite N, Indianapolis, IN 46254
