Fern Mae Hungate, 94, Crawfordsville,
died 2:55 a.m. Thursday at Bickford Cottage.
Mrs. Hungate was a secretary/bookkeeper
at Mid-States Steel and Wire for 11 years.
She was also employed by Ben Hur Life as
a scribe for several years.
Her memberships included Wabash
Avenue Presbyterian Church for 65 years
and she was an active supporter of the
Presbyterian Preschool; Dorothy Q Chapter of
Daughters of the American Revolution; Epsilon Omega Chapter
of Delta Theta Tau National Sorority; Crawfordsville Art
League; Crawfordsville Country Club; Friends of the Library;
Friends of the Vanity Theater; The Montgomery County Historical
Society; The Hungate Historical Society; she was also a
partner in the Indiana Special Olympics; and was a former Pink
Lady at Culver Hospital (St. Clare Medical Center). She graduated
from Crawfordsville High School in 1932.
She was born Aug. 11, 1914 in Crawfordsville to George M.
and Maude E. Hurley Shanklin. She married Robert R. Hungate
June 13, 1942. He died Aug. 14, 1989.
Survivors include four nieces.
She is preceded in death by sisters Irene Spears and Vera
Ramsey.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Hunt
& Son Funeral Home with Rev. John Van Nuys officiating. Burial
will be at Oak Hill Cemetery Grant Ave. Friends may call one
hour prior to services Saturday.
