Crawfordsville

Gary Lee Rice, 67, passed away peacefully at home on February 24 in Crawfordsville, Indiana, surrounded by the place and people he loved.

Born in Crawfordsville, Gary was a lifelong member of the community and a graduate of Crawfordsville High School. For nearly 45 years, he worked as a skilled carpenter and landlord, building and maintaining properties throughout the area. More than the work itself, Gary was known for his willingness to lend a helping hand, whether it was a repair, a project, or simply being there when someone needed him.

Gary was a devoted husband to his wife, Terri, and a proud father to his children, Steven (Dana) Rice and Madison (Drew) Fleagle. He cherished his role as Grandpa to his grandchildren, Owen and Caden Rice and was excited to meet his new grandson this summer, Baby Fleagle. He felt immense joy spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Janet Rice. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and siblings, Marla (Jim) Mack, Lisa (Terry) Powell, Greg (Linda) Rice; mother-in-law, Judy McCormick, brother-in-law, Derrick (Tammy) Morgan; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews whom he loved and adored as well.

Gary had a lifelong love of sports, especially cheering on the New York Yankees and watching Purdue basketball. He enjoyed the simple pleasures, good games, familiar faces, and time at home, and will be remembered for his generosity, quiet strength, and contagious laugh.

Gary’s legacy lives on in the homes he remodeled, the people he helped, and the family who loved him deeply.

Visitation services will be held on Sunday, March 1st from 12-3pm with funeral services to immediately follow at Hunt & Son Funeral Home in Crawfordsville, IN. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Montgomery County Animal Welfare League are welcomed.
