Gary Duane Surber passed away Saturday night, Aug. 24, 2019, at St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital, with family beside him.
Gary was born Aug. 31, 1939, at Crawfordsville, to Vola and Ester Surber.
He graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1957. He then joined the U.S. Navy and served at the Naval Auxiliary in Kingsville, Texas.
He married Rozella Moore on May 4, 1959, in the home of the bride's parents by the Rev. George Beaty. The celebrated there 60th anniversary by meeting their great-granddaughter, Harper Raelynn Craft.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Linda Surber; and nephew Jeff Surber.
Survivors include: wife Rozella; son Doug of Appleton, Wisconsin; daughter Carol (Terry) Craft of Crawfordsville; two grandsons, Justin (Renee) Craft and Brendon Craft, both of Greenwood; great-granddaughter Harper Craft; brother Ron (Jan) Surber of Crawfordsville; nieces, Janna, Missy and Angie; and nephews, Greg, Mike, James and Brian.
He loved spending time with his children and grandsons in his shop or at the fishing hole! He loved fishing, hiking and camping out at the "fishing hole" with friends. He also loved flying with friends and taking flying lessons at the old Crawfordsville airport.
He worked 43 years at California Pellet Mill as a machinist retiring in October of 2004.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Wilke officiating. Friends may call from noon until services Friday at the funeral home. Burial, with military rites, will follow at Pisgah Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County.
