Harold S. McDonald, Jr., 83, of Waynetown, passed away Thursday at the Waters in Covington.
He was born Dec. 8, 1932 in Smartsburg. He is the son of Harold and Helen McDonald.
He was a blacksmith by trade and first retiree of Stalcop cold forming, and former sexton of Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
Racing was his life, blueprinting 5hp Briggs & Stratton, Artic Cat&350 Chevy engines. He won races all over the country, won the 1988 Indiana state dirt track championship with NASCAR champion Tony Stewart as driver. His best friend was legendary Sprintcar builder Lloyd Shores. He was also a member of Waynetown Volunteer Fire Dept for 30 years and past president of Waynetown Jaycees as well as past president of Ben Hur Speedway.
He is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Pete) McKinney; two sons, Tharon (Connie) McDonald and Matt (Stephanie) McDonald;two step children Cindy (Allen) Jeffries & Larry (Ramona) Thomas; eight grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
Cremation was chosen. A Celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
