Obituary

Harold David Smith, 78, of Crawfordsville passed away Wednesday morning, April 12, 2017, surrounded by family. Born June 9, 1938 at Crawfordsville, he was the son of Kenneth and Irene (Carroll) Smith. He was a 1956 graduate of Crawfordsville High School and had served his country as a member of the National Guard. Harold married Joy Jean Stephens on May 25, 1959. Harold and Joy spent many winters in Arizona prospecting for gold, one of his favorite hobbies. Mr. Smith also loved to camp, fish, hunt and spend time with his family. He was always full of stories and memories that he needed to share. He and his wife enjoyed playing euchre at the Moose and Legion. He loved working his garden, he and his wife had set up with their produce stand locally at the Farmer's Market and for 34 years at Steam Corner. Mr. Smith was always busy providing for his family. He had worked as a mailman, milkman, worked in the Laborer's Union, worked at Crown Cork & Seal, was a farmer, owned his own feed store; Smith Feed & Farm, was a truck driver; Smith Family Trucking, and enjoyed auctioning. He was currently busy in the local Amish community hauling produce, flowers and feed. Survivors include his wife, Joy Smith; a daughter, Robin (Bobby) Kiger of Crawfordsville; a son, David (Cami) Smith of Crawfordsville; four grandchildren, Crockett (Katie) Smith of Lebanon, Vicki Ferrante of Crawfordsville, Christopher Smith of Crawfordsville and Robert Kiger of Crawfordsville; two great-grandchildren, Lucy Smith and Cassandra Smith; two brothers, Larry (Terri Griffin) Smith of Crawfordsville and Jerry (Pat) Smith of Roachdale; and two sisters, Lorraine (Bud) Brady of Crawfordsville and Karen Thorson of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Billy Smith; and a sister-in-law, Jo Smith.
Cremation was chosen. Family and friends may pay their respects from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15 at Hunt & Son Funeral Home in Crawfordsville.
