Harry A. Moore, 76, of Sun City Center, Fla., and formerly of Crawfordsville and Frankfort, passed away peacefully on Nov. 3.
Mr. Moore was born and raised in Crawfordsville. He graduated from Indiana University in 1951 where he earned a scholarship and three varsity letters in baseball.
After serving in the U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command during the Korean War, he worked in the Frankfort Community School System for more than 30 years, retiring as principal of James Whitcomb Riley Elementary School in 1990. He was a former state president of the Elementary Principals Association, past president of Kiwanis, a long-time IHSAA official in football, basketball and baseball and an usher and lay leader at St. Matthew United Methodist Church. He enjoyed an active retirement in Sun City Center where he was an outstanding golfer in the men's league and a past president of the United Community Church College.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Loretta (Sperry); a son, David H. (M. Kristine Beckwith) Moore, M.D.; two daughters, Pamela Ann Moore and Beth Ellen (Charles) Moore Burkhart; and six grandchildren.
There will be a public reception on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. at Hunt & Son Funeral Home in Crawfordsville followed by a private burial service for the family.
