Obituary

"Well, Howdy Do? A simple phrase from a simple woman who lived simply but her impact left on others was significant.  An only child, born in Detroit, Michigan to Edward Bedwell and Francis Teague Bedwell. Hazel was raised by her mother and step-father (Estel Ray Reed) in Parke County. Early in her school years, she would meet her sister in spirit, Mavis Joan Sheets, who proceeded her in death. Together they would become part of their high school's basketball team and they remained the best of friends throughout their lives. After completing school, Hazel married Floyd Leslie Demoret and together they shared 20-plus years of marriage and two children Phyllis Jean (Gerald) West and Michael Ray (Paula) Demoret.

While married to Floyd she would begin her life-long career as a short-order cook and waitress. She began working at the locally owned and community-loved Snacker Grill. During her 4 decades at this tiny eatery, she would work the 4 am to 2 pm shift Monday-Saturday. You could always find her there. She would amaze you with her ability to stand behind the ten stool counter-top, single-handedly waitress, answer the phone, do dishes, and successfully sling food for the counter customers and the waitressed tables.  She became the cook, mother, grandmother, friend, confidant, and public safety officer to everyone who walked through the door. If you lived or worked in the Montgomery County area during the 60s through the 90s then chances are you have at least one memory or story that involved Hazel and your time spent at the Snacker. Whether yours is a fond recollection, a funny moment, questionable behavior (generally beginning "after the bar closed"), or one of the daily habits she left her mark on so many in our community. During this time and after divorcing Hazel married Clarence Pearl Staggs. She shared in the lives of his two children John Pearl Staggs and Dee Stabler. She finished her working years out working at Digger's and the H&L Cafe doing the same work. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, going out to eat, traveling, camping, and playing cards. She was loved by many and will be truly missed.

Hazel was proceeded in death by her parents, son Michael, husband Clarence, and Son-in-law Gary. She leaves behind her daughter Phyllis, Stepchildren John and Dee along with grandchildren Jennifer (Patrick) Busenbark, Clinton (Alana) West, Drew (Stacy) Demoret, Dustin Demoret, Nathan (Ashley) Staggs, Rowan Staggs, and Mason Lockard, and Great-grandchildren Nickolas, Brennden and Reese Busenbark, Destiny (Jacob) Jenkins, Kierra Gill, Emmitt Jones, Raelyn West, Daxton and Callon Demoret, Serenity, Emma, and Kayden Staggs, and Mac Lockard along with Great Great Grandchildren Oliver Jenkins, and Paislee and Ledger Gill.
