Helen J. Michael Cook Wray, 97, died Sunday at her home in Crawfordsville. Mrs. Wray worked for Dick Banta, publisher, from 1927 to 1938. She and her husband owned Wray's Food Market in Fiskville during the late 1940's. She was a Civil Service worker until her retirement in 1971.
Helen Wray was born in Crawfordsville on April 15, 1909, to Cloyce and Nora Plunkett Michael. She was a 1927 Crawfordsville High School Graduate.
Mrs. Wray first married Herbert Cook in 1940. He died in service in 1944. She married Loren Barney Wray in 1946. He died in 1995.
Helen was a world traveler and lived a few years in Okinawa and Ankara, Turkey. She retired to Columbia, South Carolina, moving back to Crawfordsville in 1978.
Her memberships include Pleasant View Baptist Church, Flower and Garden Club, Hospital Auxiliaries and a local bridge club.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Carl Michael and her parents.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am Wednesday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Thompson officiating. Friends my call one our prior to the service. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery Grant Ave. Memorial contributions may be made to ones charity of choice.
