Herschel Yater, Veedersburg, passed way Sunday evening.  He was born in Marshall to Bervie and Goldie (Cain) Yater.  He was self employed for many years in construction, worked in several area factories and also had owned Yater Furniture and Yater auto parts at one time.

He married Verna M Harriet on July 31, 1946 and she passed on October 23, 2008.  She then married Sherry Bailey and she survives.  Also surviving are his children, Betty Jean (Yater) Leslie, , Janet Pauline (Yater) Ellars and Goldie Larue Yater, grandchildren, Matt Leslie, Jeremy Yater, Chad Jones, Amanda, Mark Leslie, Angie Greene and Dawn Long along with several great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Harold Paul Yater and siblings, Eldon Marrell Yater, Lloyd francis Yater, Morriss Cliston Yater, James Carroll Yater, Mary alice (Yater) Leaman, Ruth Larue (Yater) Larson, Gerald Paul Yater and Vernon Glenwood Yater.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home with visitation two hours prior.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery North.
