Howard T Swisher, Jr. went to be with his Lord & Saviour on May 28, 2017, at Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville.
He was born Nov. 17, 1921, to the late Howard T Swisher, Sr. and Dora Ellen Hardee Swisher.
He was a 1939 graduate of New Market High School. He served his country from 1942 – 1945 with the 533rd Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment, where he received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and one Bronze Star; Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and four Bronze Stars; Bronze Service Arrowhead; Good Conduct Ribbon; and four overseas service bars.
He was retired from R.R. Donnelley & Sons and a member of East Side Baptist Church.
He is survived by his children; Deb (Tom) Ramie, Cindy Swisher, Neal (Vickie) Swisher, Mary (Tim) Cramer, Bob (Sandy) Steele, Jack (Gay) Thompson, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a sister Nina Ray.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Louise Hardesty, Jesse Frees, Helen Gill; his wife of over 30 years, Mildred Gravley Swisher, his companion of over 10 years, Shirley Steele; Danny Steele; and Doug Steele.
Services will be held at Hunt & Son Funeral Home Wednesday May 31, 2017 with visitation from noon to 2 p.m.
Burial will be held at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery with military rites.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Honor Flight Program.
