Jack Tibbett, 81, of Crawfordsville died at 4:35 a.m. Monday in the Ben Hur Nursing Home in Crawfordsville.
He was born to John and Mazie Summers Tibbett on Jan. 5, 1926 in Kingman. He was a 1950 graduate of Purdue University and on June 15, 1952 he married Anna Louise Sites. She survives.
Mr. Tibbett owned the Sportsman Shop in downtown Crawfordsville for many years. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 during World War II when he was stationed at Pearl Harbor. He was a volunteer for the Crawfordsville Little League for years and during the 1960s he served as the host for the "Coaches Corner" radio show. He was also a member of the Red Coats at St. Claire Medical Center.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Elyse Garrett of Crawfordsville; a sister, Vonnie Pavey of Iowa; and three grandchildren, Neil Garrett, Elizabeth Garrett and Allison (Brandon) Stephens.
There will be private graveside services Wednesday. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until noon Wednesday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home.
