Jack D. Walton, 85, of Crawfordsville passed away Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Bickford Memory Care.
He was born July 27, 1931, at Crawfordsville, to the late Delbert and Florence Campbell Walton.
He graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1949 where he was a member of the varsity tennis team. He attended Indiana University for two years and served in the U.S. Air Force 1951 to 1955, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, based at the Pentagon
He retired from MidStates Wire in 1993 as director of Industrial Relations with 32 years of service. He was formerly married to Barbara Manion who is deceased. On Feb. 4, 1967 he married Donna Stultz at Crawfordsville. She survives.
He is survived by four children, Pete (Jennifer) Crawfordsville, Linda (the late Randy Stark) Iowa City, Iowa, Rebecca (Terry) Peacock and Tim (Karen) Walton of Lafayette; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; as well as brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Donald O. Walton and wife Bette of Lafayette; and sister Jeanne W. Burnstein and husband Charles of Crawfordsville.
He was a member of Byron Cox Post American Legion and Voiture 1310 40 & 8. He was a former member of the Wabash Tennis Club and a volunteer at the Crawfordsville District Public Library, delivering books to the homebound. He was a former member of the Montgomery County Personnel Association and directed the Junior Achievement program at Mid-States for young people interested in business careers. He was an avid golfer and an IU basketball fan but had the most fun with his grandchildren. After retirement, he and Donna spent many winters in Texas enjoying golf, family, and warmer weather.
The family would like to convey their appreciation to the loving staff at Bickford Memory Care who took excellent care of Jack for three and a half years. Their kindness and care will always be remembered. The family also recognizes the gentle and knowledgeable staff of Hoosier Heartland Hospice who were so good to Jack.
Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hunt and Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Entombment will be in Oak Hill Mausoleum immediately following the service with military rites
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, American Cancer Society or Montgomery County Community Foundation.
