James R. "Buck" Jones, 77, Crawfordsville passed away Monday morning at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis.
He drove a truck for McDaniel Freight Liners and retired from Inland Container Corporation. He served in the National Guard from October of 1953 until October of 1954 and in the U.S. Marine Corps from October of 1956 until November of 1963.
He was a founding member of Friendship Baptist Church as well as a member of the Moose Lodge, Crawfordsville Bowling League and the American Legion. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and playing dominoes.
He was born May 27, 1956 in Crawfordsville to Robert M. and Wildas F. (Welch) Jones. He married Evelyn Dockins on October 28, 1958 and she preceded him in death in 1990. Survivors include sons Bob (Lisa) Jones of Veedersburg and John (Molly) Jones of Hanover, and a brother, Tom (Jane Gray) Jones of Yadkinville, N.C. In addition six grandchildren, A.J. Jones, Evie Lichtenwalter, Kelsey Jones, Alex Jones, Tyler Jones and Coleman Jones survive.
He was preceded in death by long time companion Janet Meece, daughter, Mary Lichtenwalter and sister, Grace Buzzaird.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 PM Thursday at Hunt and Son Funeral Home with Ken Baldauff and Chris Horton officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery North with military rites conducted by the VFW and American Legion. Friends may call from 1:00 PM until services Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent Foundation with envelopes available at the funeral home.
