James Nichols

James Gregory Vade Nichols passed on March 21st, 2026 at 23 years old. He received his Bachelor of Social Work from Ball State University in May of 2024 and was posthumously awarded his Master of Social Work, which he was slated to receive this year.

He is survived by his mother Laura and father Greg, his sister Georgana Hoeldtke (Ethan), his maternal grandparents Kim and Donnie Wright, paternal grandparents Jim (Brenda) and Mary Nichols, and a multitude of friends.

James was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana, where he attended Southmont High School. He was a core member of his local chapter of Future Farmers of America and remained active within the organization throughout his life.

Since he was very young, James was outgoing, charismatic, and wise. He drew people to him, and once you were a part of James’s circle, he made sure you were taken care of. He was known to give “I love you’s” out to friends and family freely and openly. He was deeply loved in turn.

A visitation will be held at Hunt & Son Funeral Home this Friday, March 27th, from 4 pm to 8 pm. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 28th at 2 pm.
