Janet Louise Gates, 81, of Zionsville, IN and formerly of Crawfordsville, IN passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 15 surrounded by family and friends.  She is reunited with her husband of 45 years who passed away on October 30, preceding her in death by 16 days.

Jan was born on April 1, 1936 in Beech Grove, IN to Clarence O. and Callie B. (Mudd) Chesterson.  She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1954.  On June 3, 1972, she married Robert Gates and spent many years as a homemaker caring for her two children.  Jan devoted much of her time over the years working for or volunteering at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Crawfordsville.  Jan will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grammy, sister and friend to many.

Jan is survived by her daughter, Maggie (Brent) Seiler of Zionsville, IN; son, Joe (Teairra) Gates of Murfreesboro, TN; brother, Ed (Maryann) Chesterson, twin sister Jean (Tom) Kenter, sisters Jodi (Jim) Erlenbaugh and Ruth Ann Kiemeyer.  She also leaves behind seven grandchildren Logan, Wyatt, Carson and Garrett Seiler, Taj Bowe and Cali and Kason Gates

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, parents and two brothers Steven Chesterson and Richard Chesterson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Monday, November 20 at St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church, 1870 W. Oak Street, Zionsville, IN. Burial is at 3:00 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery 435 W. Troy Ave. Indianapolis, IN.  Visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 a.m.- 11:30 a.m. at the church.
