Janet Padgitt died at the age  of 67 at Ben Hur Health and Rehab in Crawfordsville on January 27.   Janet was born to Floyd Padgitt and Winifred (Rodgers) Padgitt in Crawfordsville, where she grew up.   Janet attended Hoover Elementary and Tuttle Junior High, and went on to work at the local sheltered workshop, which her parents helped to found.  She lived at Houston Group Homes first in Crawfordsville and later in Lebanon, where she worked at The ARC sheltered workshop.

Janet began early in life a struggle with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, characterized by early childhood epilepsy resistant to treatment and cognitive limitations.   In spite of these challenges, Janet was often found making her signature potholders or doing word puzzles, and excelled at remembering birthdays of family and friends.   She could be very sweet natured but also a devilish kidder with caretakers and friends.

Janet's family gives heartfelt thanks to her caregivers over the years for their patience and dedication, including the staff of Ben Hur Health & Rehab,  Franciscan Hospice, Houston Group Homes, Dr. Richard Miller,  Dr. S. Marri and many specialists and hospital staff.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents.  She is survived by brother Evan Padgitt of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and cousins Jerry (Tina) Gookins of Key West, FL; William Gookins of Mellott;   Larry (Virginia) Rodgers of Jamestown;  Fred (Dixie) Rodgers of Barrington, IL.

A visitation will take place Thursday, February 1 from noon to 2:00pm with service at 2:00pm at Hunt & Son Funeral Home, 107 N. Grant Avenue in Crawfordsville, with burial to follow.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The ARC  ( www.arcind.org ) or the Lennox-Gastaut Foundation  ( www.lgsfoundation.org )
