Janet “Jan” Lucille Ranard-O’Neill was born on August 5th, 1941, in Spencer, Indiana, to Harold Orville Hubbard and Lenore McClure Hubbard. She went home to be with the Lord on May 16th, 2026. Jan was always grateful for where and when she grew up. In her words, “it was a simpler time.” She was a proud member of Spencer High School’s Class of 1959.
Jan was married to the father of her children, Rev. James L. Ranard, for 42 years. She later married Richard A. O’Neill and they were married 17 years until his passing on June 6th, 2018.
Jan found her niche in real estate and poured her energy into a career she truly excelled in. Over 28 successful years, she earned multiple recognitions before retiring. Even then, she continued to give her time and heart to others—volunteering as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for children and youth in Montgomery County and serving as a job coach for the Lafayette School Corporation. Jan served as a high school Sunday School teacher for years and was surrounded by students who loved her genuine approach to faith and love for Christ.
While many knew her as a capable businesswoman, those closest to Jan knew her best as a generous and compassionate woman and for the love she poured into her home and family—her greatest joys. She loved being around people and people loved her. Jan also baked the best chocolate chip cookies – if you had her recipe, you were one of very few who did.
She leaves behind a loving family who will miss her deeply: her children, Ellen (John) Dunaway, J.R.(Kelly) Ranard, and Dave (Kimberli) Ranard; 16 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard A. O’Neill; her sisters, Jacquetta Sue (Don) Wright and Lynetta Lynn Hubbard; and her grandson, James David Ranard.
A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church, 1905 Lebanon Road, Crawfordsville, Indiana 47933, on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a graveside service at Oak Hill Cemetery in Crawfordsville. Public visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until service time also at the church.
A special thanks to the nurses, support staff and administrators at Ben Hur Health and Rehabilitation Center for their personal and loving care that made Jan feel very special. The family would also like to thank the Anew Hospice team for their special gifts that brought comfort and care together for our mother’s final days.
