Joan Evans, 84, passed away peacefully Friday morning, November 26, 2010 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grove Evans in 1988.
Joan was born on August 13, 1926 in Deers Mill, Indiana to Bert and Frances Hallett. She married Grove Evans on May 6, 1945. Joan was a 1944 graduate of New Market High School. Joan worked for the Montgomery County welfare department and then later graduated from beauty college. She began her professional career starting a beauty shop in her home in Darlington. After a few years, she moved her shop to Main Street, Darlington known as Joan's House of Beaute' which she owned and operated until her retirement I984.
Joan loved her family, was a friend to many, and was a well respected leader in the Darlington community. She was very active for years In the Darlington Merchants Association where she served as an officer and chair of the Darlington Bicentennial Celebration. She was a member of the Plainfield Christian Church and formerly a member of the Darlington Christian Church. Her generosity and willingness to serve was known by many. She enjoyed family vacations across the United States and spent much time in the Evans' winter home in Eustis, Florida. She moved from Darlington to Plainfield in 1994. The past two and a half years she has been a resident at Brownsburg Meadows. Her personal interests were many and included doing craft shows, sewing, crocheting, painting, and ceramics.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Robinson (Don), her son John Evans (Kathy) and two grandchildren, Tiffany Evans of Arlington, Virginia, and Matthew Evans of Clermont, Florida, a brother, Don Hallett (Ruth Ellen), two brother-in-laws, Sam Evans (Ruth) and Max Evans (Joy).
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 30, 2010 from 4:00- 8:00pm at Hunt and Son Funeral Home in Crawfordsville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at the Darlington Christian Church. Pastor Ben Hitsfield of the Darlington Christian Church and Pastor Steve White of the Plainfield Christian Church will be officiating.
