Joe Cunningham of Crawfordsville, known to many as
"Mr. Athenian," died at 2:50 p.m. Saturday in his home. He was
85.
Mr. Cunningham retired from RR Donnelley
as a quality analyst. He was a Crawfordsville
High School graduate.
His memberships included: First Baptist
Church, Calvary Chapel, Jay Cees, musical
director for Church Men United of Montgomery
County, Crawfordsville High School
#1 fan, Montgomery County Basketball Hall
of Fame and Crawfordsville High School Hall
of Fame.
He was born Aug. 27, 1925, at Crawfordsville, to Walter
and Mary McDaniel Cunningham. He married Laura Gertie. She
survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Wm. Scott Cunningham and
Matthew Wayne Cunningham; two daughters, Diana Jo Drew
and Trudy Jo Cunningham; four grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild.
His siblings, Mac, Ralph, Jerry, Mildred, Jean and Robert, are
deceased.
Funeral services are scheduled
for 1 p.m.Wednesday at First
Baptist Church with the Revs. Ken Green and Jim Ranard
officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery North. Friends
may call from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the CHS Booster Club in memory of Joe. Envelopes will be available at the church.
