IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Andrew
Butz, Iii
February 22, 1973 – April 26, 2023
John Andrew Butz III, 50, of Boston, Massachusetts passed away on April 26, 2023. John was born on February 22, 1973, in Morehead, Kentucky. He grew up in Crawfordsville, Indiana, and attended Crawfordsville High School. While attending Crawfordsville High School, he showed great aptitude for speech competitions, school plays, and cross country, which ultimately led to him graduating with honors in 1991 with a full-ride scholarship to Wabash College. John graduated from Wabash College cum laude in 1995 with a degree in Chemistry and was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He married his wife, Malinda in 1998, and they settled in Rochester, Minnesota, where they both worked in laboratories at Mayo Clinic. While working in the laboratory, John realized his true purpose was in operations and managing and mentoring people. He obtained his MBA from The University of Minnesota. John and Malinda had their first child, John IV, in 2006, and their second child, Isabella, in 2008. The family relocated to Boston, Massachusetts in 2019. John immediately fell in love with Boston and all of New England. He was always up for an adventure and loved spending time with his family in the White Mountains. He was generous, gregarious, and loved to entertain and cook elaborate meals for his friends and family. He was a masterful storyteller and would regale his friends and family with tales of the most obscure happenings from decades ago. He was fiercely loyal and cared deeply about his family and friends, as well as his employees and colleagues at Tufts Medical Center. He recently baked 120 muffins for his staff to celebrate Laboratory Week with the help of his daughter, Isabella. He was a member of St. Leonard's Roman Catholic Church in the North End where he was particularly inspired by their passionate homilies on spreading Christ's love through community care for the homeless in Boston. He also volunteered at St Francis House for the homeless in Boston. He is survived by his wife, Malinda, son, John, daughter Isabella, parents Kay (Rick) Davis of Crawfordsville and John (Judy) Butz of Coatesville, IN, sister Michele (Ron) Czarnik, step brothers Craig (Tricia) Livesay, Scott (Paige) Livesay and Darrick (Amanda) Livesay and many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
