John H. Crowder of Crawfordsville died Saturday in Franciscan St. Elizabeth Hospital-Crawfordsville. He was 88.
Mr. Crowder retired from Americana Nursing Home as maintenance supervisor. He also farmed for 45 years and had owned a flower shop in Hillsboro.
He had helped deliver Meals on Wheels and volunteered at the Wesley Thrift Shop. He was a former member of both the Elks and Moose lodges. He also was a member of Hillsboro Masonic Lodge and was past president of Fountain County 4-H Council and member First United Methodist Church.
He was a graduate of Hillsboro High School and Wabash College.
He was born Feb. 5, 1923, at Crawfordsville, to Grover B. and Bessie V. (Davidson) Crowder. He married Edith Dooley. She is deceased. He then married Alma Morgan. She survives.
Also surviving are son John Thomas (Patty) Crowder of Hillsboro; stepsons, Richard (Lee Ann) Morgan of Attica and Rod (Judy) Morgan of Plymouth; daughter Amy Linn (Dave) Allen of Crawfordsville; stepdaughter Shirley (Dan) Hester of Richmond; sisters, Dorothy Scott of Hillsboro and Mary Helen Niskala of Schoolcraft, Mich.; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home, 107 N. Grant Ave., with the Rev. Gary Lewis officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. today and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.
