Obituary

John E. Hardwick, 88, of Crawfordsville passed away Nov. 4, 2016.

Born in 1928 to the late Lester and Opal Hardwick, he was a Navy veteran, having served in the Pacific theatre during World War II. He retired the Allison Div. of General Motors after 37 years of work in management, statistics and reliability engineering. As part of his promotion in statistics, he wrote computer programs enabling machine operators to utilize statistics so as to improve work quality. After retirement he and his wife built a house on Indian Creek and, later, with his family, restored the Yount's Mill boarding house, entered it into the National Register of Historical Places and, with his wife, operated it as a Bed & Breakfast for many years. As a hobby he built historical ships, model airplanes,etc. He loved drawing house plans and building/restoring even part time before he retired.

He is survived by his wife, Arvilla (Pat) J. Hardwick; three sons, John D., Gary D., and Michael A.; daughter, Renee McCoskey; and one sister, Nancy (Rose) Walters. Also surviving are three grandsons; two granddaughters; four great-grandsons; and three great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne N. Hardwick; and sister, Anita R. Brieda.

Visitation: There will be a memorial visitation Monday evening at Hunt and Son Funeral Home from 5-7 PM.
