Obituary

John Robert Meek of Crawfordsville died Tuesday morning at St. Elizabeth East Hospital, Lafayette. He was 82.
Mr. Meek was the retired owner of W&M Plastics.
John loved his family, friends, golf, Purdue sports, laughter, traveling and trying to learn something on the harmonica besides "Turkey in the Straw."
His memberships included: First United Methodist Church, American Legion, 50-year member of Masonic Lodge No. 50, Scottish Rite, Elks Lodge #483, past president of the Crawfordsville Optimists and Montgomery County Shrine Club, 50-year member of Murat Shrine and Crawfordsville Country Club. He served in the Army Reserves and was a graduate of Crawfordsville High School.
He was born Aug. 19, 1929, at Crawfordsville, to Mayford and Leanora Line Meek. He married Mary Ann Dowell on April 15, 1951, at Crawfordsville. She survives.
Additional survivors include: children, Sue Ann Ford, Crawfordsville, Stephen T. (Carol) Meek, San Diego, Calif., Janet E. Meek, Indianapolis, Elizabeth L. (Richard) Sowers, Crawfordsville; nieces and nephews, Mary (Charles) Frey, Crawfordsville, Robert Warren, Bluffton, S.C., Scott Meek, Fargo, N.D., and Marilyn LaCasse of Washington state; several great nieces and nephews; and four grandchildren, Robert Adam Ford, Muncie, Daniel John Meek, Las Vegas, Melissa Erin Meek, Phoenix, Ariz., and Ann Elizabeth Virgin-Meek, Indianapolis.
His parents and his brothers, Edward and Raymond Meek, and his sister Evelyn Frey are deceased.
A celebration of life service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Hunt and Son Funeral Home, Crawfordsville, with Pastor Gary Lewis, First United Methodist Church, officiating. Masonic service will be at 1:45 p.m. Cremation was chosen. Friends may call 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or First United Methodist Church, Crawfordsville.
