Jolinda Kay Mellady

Jolinda Kay Mellady passed away at the age of 61. She was born on March 21, 1965, in Crawfordsville, Indiana, and made her home in Lafayette, IN.

At the heart of Jolinda's life was her marriage to Michael Mellady, a love story that began long before they said "I do" on September 1, 1990. Those who knew them understood that what Michael and Jolinda shared was something rare — a deep, devoted partnership that few are lucky enough to find. Together they built 36 years of marriage rooted in love and devotion.

For many years, Jolinda worked at Carol's Green Street Tavern, a bar owned by her mother, Carol Hurt, who preceded her in death in 2020. She later worked at Indy RD Pub (IRP), where she worked for her Uncle Roy and his wife Carla.

She had a great love of music — from Carole King and John Mellencamp to Pearl Jam — and an even greater love for her animals. Her dogs Amelia, Jackson, and Gabby; her cat MacKenzie; and her rabbit Dante were a cherished part of her everyday life.

She had a love for farmers markets and covered bridge festivals, where she enjoyed searching for unique treasures to decorate her home, and loved going to outdoor music concerts with her husband. Those who knew Jolinda knew her as quiet and shy, with a genuinely caring heart and a smile that could light up any room.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, Michael Mellady; her aunts and uncles, Karen Brainard, Kim Vance, Roy Hurt, and Randy Hurt; and her half-sister, Meisha.
