Josette Marie Danforth, 76, passed away peacefully of natural causes on August 4th, 2020 in Crawfordsville. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Danny Danforth. She is survived by her sons Brent Danforth (Alicia) of Columbus, OH, Eric Danforth of Crawfordsville, IN and her daughter, Beth Steadman (Bill) of Carmel, IN; as well as grandchildren Nicholas Danforth (17), Emily Steadman (17), and Sara Steadman (15).
She was born November 10th, 1943 in Paris, France during World War II to Jeanette Gouien of the Bretagne region in western France. Baptized in Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, she and her mother arrived in the United States via Ellis Island in April 1946, settling in Connecticut and graduating high school in Willimantic.
Josette enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1963, serving for over one year during the Vietnam War. As Private First Class, she was assigned to the Women Marine Detachment at the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, North Carolina. This is where she met Danny, a fellow Marine, and they married in September 1964, never leaving each other's side in 53 years. They went on to raise their three children in Montgomery County, Indiana.
Josette was a published author of poetry, an avid reader, a lover of classical music, and had a great appreciation of nature. She and Danny loved to go fishing, play tennis, mushroom hunt, and sit with family on the patio laughing together and enjoying each other's company. She lived her life with the highest honor, dignity, and integrity, and will be remembered most of all for how she fiercely loved and protected her family.
Visitation is scheduled at Hunt & Son Funeral home in Crawfordsville on Saturday, August 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that well-wishers consider a contribution to:
