Joyce Ethel Pettit 78 of Crawfordsville went to be with the Lord on September 5, 2020. With family by her side, she died peacefully at home after fighting a battle with dementia. She was born October 28, 1941 at Vine Grove Kentucky to Joseph "Jack" Vowels and Virginia Welliver. Joyce graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1959. She married Lloyd E. Pettit July 22, 1959 where she resided with him in San Diego, California while he served in the U.S. Navy. They moved back to Crawfordsville where she worked for Crawford Industries for three years. Then she became a homemaker. She was a long time member of Christ Church and a member of a Home Economic Club. Joyce and her husband were both involved with The Compassionate Friends located in Indianapolis for bereaved parents.
Joyce enjoyed especially her family, traveling, golf, bowling, walking, and her flower garden. She is survived by her daughter Linda (Greg) Rice of Crawfordsville, grandson Cory Rice, sisters: Reva (Doug) Bigham, of Ladoga, Phyllis Turpin, Karen Gipson, Peggy (Bob) Black of Crawfordsville. Brothers: James (Melanie) Vowels Ladoga, Donnie McCalment of Crawfordsville.
Joyce was preceded in death by her son David W. Pettit, grandson Joshua Rice, and her brother Ronnie McCalment. Due to Covid-19 masks are expected and social distancing should be observed.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday with a visitation beginning at noon at Hunt & Son Funeral Home, Pastor Kelly Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery South. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church.
