Karol Loraine Smith, 61, of Crawfordsville, passed away Saturday evening at Manor Care Nursing Home in Avon.

Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 8, 1950 in Crawfordsville, the daughter of Howard E. and Betty (Hughes) Meese.

She was a 1968 graduate of Crawfordsville High School. She married Larry W. Smith on June 27, 1970. They later divorced. He survives.

She had worked at the Banjo Corporation. She enjoyed crocheting, bowling and attending the many events of her grandchildren.

She is survived by her former husband; son, Matthew (Shawna) Smith of Crawfordsville, daughter, Melinda (Mark) Gann of Crawfordsville; sisters, Karen (Brian Jarvis) Haskett of Loveland, Colo., and Lisa (John) Dumeyer of Avon; step-mother, Marilyn Meese; companion, Chuck Marquess; and five grandchildren, Shelby Phillips, Jordan Phillips, Cody Smith, Josie Gann and Jade Gann.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and step-brother, James Short.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church.

Friends and family can pay their respects from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the church.
