Loran K. Rutledge, 81, of Crawfordsville passed away Tuesday October 2, 2007 at St. Clare Medical Center.
Loran retired from RR Donnelly after 43 years and as Montgomery County Veterans Service officer for 40 years. He is a veteran of the US Army serving in WWII and Korea. He also was a two term councilman for the Crawfordsville City Council. He received many awards including the Sagamore of the Wabash, Kentucky Colonel, Volunteer of the year by Montgomery Community Foundation, State Veterans officer of the Year 1996, Outstanding Service to DAV 1996-97, Commendation from the Indiana American Legion and VFW, Elks Citizen of the Year award 1992 among many others.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Montgomery County Historical Society, Crawfordsville Kiwanis, American Legion, VFW, Elks Lodge #483, Masonic Lodge. He also served on Park & Recreation Board, Montgomery County Heart Association board, Union Township Board, Board for Council on Aging, and Past president of the FISH Program.
He was born October 31, 1925 in Crawfordsville to Leon & Geneva Shoaf Rutledge. On April 24, 1948 he married Juanita Cornwell in Darlington, she survives. Also surviving are a Daughter Candy (Bob) Hodges, Granddaughter Cara Hodges, Grandson Chad Hodges, Brother Bobby (Ramey) Rutledge, and a sister Patricia Crausare. A brother and sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held 10:30am Friday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Plasterer officiating. Friends may call from 4-8 Thursday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Mausoleum at a later date.
