Obituary

Luther Lee Lofland, Sr., 81, Crawfordsville, passed away 9:25 PM Monday evening at Home Hospital in Lafayette, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Mr. Lofland was born on March 21, 1925 near Crawfordsville to John Lucas Lofland and Clara Conard Breaks Lofland. He was a Waynetown High School and Purdue University graduate. He served in the military from 1943 to 1946 in the Army Air Corps and saw duty in the South Pacific and Japan.

Luther was employed by the Decatur Co-op in Greensburg for five years. He was then employed at First National Bank and Bank One as a farm manager in the trust department before retiring in 1990.

His memberships included Lion's Club of Crawfordsville and past president of the Indiana Agri-Bankers. He was also president of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International. He was co-chairman of the restoration committee to restore the clock tower to the Montgomery County Courthouse. He served as treasurer for CROP for 35 years and received the CROP volunteer lifetime achievement award. As a 70+ year member of First Christian Church he served as both a deacon and an elder.

Luther married Sandra Wheeler on June 1st, 1958 and she survives. Also surviving are a son, Luther (Kristie) Lofland, Jr. of Indianapolis, daughters, Louanne Cole of Everett, WA, Linda (David) Gray and Lisa (Tom) May, both of Crawfordsville, brothers, John Breaks Lofland of Crawfordsville, Robert Lofland of Stockwell and James Lofland of Rushville. In addition, eight grandchildren, Kari Brown, Luke Lofland, Lauren & Sarina Cole, Emily & Charlie Gray, Brandon May and Michael Adams survive.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Nora McKinney.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 AM Thursday in the First Christian Church, 212 S. Walnut St, Crawfordsville with Pastor Keith Strain. A private burial with military rites will precede services at the church.

Friends and family may call from 4-8 PM Wednesday in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church or the Clock Tower Project for the Montgomery County Court House. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
